GHETTO FOUNDATION IMPROVED PROFILE. Ghetto Foundation is a grassroots, membership community based organization and a knowledge development focused organization that started in 2009, having set up and formed by a group of young men and women in the Mathare ghetto, Nairobi, Kenya with a commitment to enrich and sustain lives and livelihoods of poor and easily marginalized people through empowerment and social justice approach. As trained and highly experienced social workers, GF members have all worked for more than a decade on projects geared towards peace building, improving the environment, economic empowerment and the promotion of all human rights in the informal settlements in Kenya through the social justice approach. Hence, the organisation has ample experience in project development and implementation, in documentation, accountancy and transparency, and in monitoring and evaluation. We strive to be evidence based - service-oriented development partner that provide and mobilize knowledge, ideas, skills, information and technology for solving practical and strategic development problems through community led research approach. The organization upholds the principles of independence and social justice, participatory development, human dignity, gender and minority mainstreaming, equity, open society, democratic governance and self-fulfilment through creation of sustainable improvements in lives of people, by involving them in the process. We achieve this by empowering the community through development and deployment of responsive products/services and programmes. This is geared to promoting societal transformation through social justice, improving socio-economic position of the target group and overall development agenda and practice by strengthening sustainable capacity of the community. Ghetto Foundation is also an award winning Community based organization on Diversity and Inclusive Award for the best collaborative approach for Community focused Organization (DIAR AWARDS / DAIMA TRUST 2022) 1.1 OBOUT THE TRATEGIC PLAN: Ghetto Foundation is dedicated to fostering on 5 key areas and 3 campaigns.Community-led research 2. CAMPAIGNS:  Housing  Climate Change  PWD By leveraging community engagement and partnerships, the organization aims to create sustainable change, address social disparities, and provide opportunities for the marginalized populations in Nairobi. The following plan provides a roadmap for achieving these goals over the next five years. 1.2Vision, Mission, Core Values and Slogan. 1.2.1 Vision: To create resilient, empowered, and equitable communities in Nairobi urban settlements through community-led research, social justice advocacy, and youth empowerment. 1.2.2 Mission: The organization is committed to empowering communities through participatory research, promoting social justice initiatives, and providing comprehensive programs to enable youth to reach their full potential. 1.2.3 OUR CORE VALUES:  Dignity: We believe in all people realizing their rights, respect and healthy self-esteem.  Fairness: We have capability and will to rise above structural and international prejudice.  Integrity: At all times we shall behave and conduct ourselves in ways that are in harmony with our personal values  Professionalism: At all times we adhere to work-to-work ethics and beneficiary satisfaction.  Solidarity: We emphatically identify ourselves with the plight of marginalized and vulnerable groups  Teamwork: We believe in teamwork, working together towards the change we all want for our community. 1.2.4 OUR SLOGAN Arranging farm foundation for our community #We Are One. Assumptions project (2017-2020): This project was funded by the Dutch Science Organisation (NOW) and GF partnered with the VU university Amsterdam. The project centred on community-led research and action (CLRA) by youth (18-24) on inclusion of their community-led organisations (CBOs) in the wider ecosystem (i.e. government, NGOs, CBOs, private sector, etc.) of education and work in marginalised settings. This research also provided evidence on CLRA as a catalyst for inclusion trajectories, whereby inclusion is taken as relational. Respectable Illegality (2012-2015): Funded by University of Amsterdam GF conducted a three year long community-led research with alcohol distillers, drugs dealers and sex workers to gain a deeper understanding of community organizing around notions of gender, work, crime and politics. Findings were translated to programming, resulting in youth-led leadership projects, economic empowerment activities, social justice advocacy and educational initiatives. Securing the Local (2016-2019) This (CLRA) research project by GF conducted research with ‘radicalising’ youth gangs in Mathare and Eastleigh (i.e. they have close ties to violent extremist groups). In this research youth (18-24) were guided to explore and instigate inclusion trajectories to education and work. In addition, they were facilitated to integrate their projects into multi-stakeholder collaborations — including government, education institutions and the private sector. The research was funded by the Conflict, Security and Stability Fund (CSSF) and was conducted in collaboration with the University of Amsterdam. UMKU project — Ushirikiano Mwema Kwa Usalama (2017-2020) Funded by European Union Ushirikiano Mwema kwa Usalama (UMKU) Project was a project by GF, MSJC, PBI and Safer World, funded by the European Union, that focused on fostering collaborative approaches by civil society as well as state actors to enhance political and socio-economic justice, non-violent conflict resolution, as well as good governance and rule of
